I'm a big fan of short self-contained slice-of-life stories about unremarkable characters, especially from a working class background (relate to these a lot more!)
Really enjoyed Last Night at the Lobster and everything by Claire Keegan.
Also doesn't have to be contemporary/realistic fiction. Like sign me up if it's a sci-fi about a waitress at an intergalactic drive-through restaurant orbiting Jupiter!!
