My dad was in an accident recently and will not be as mobile as he always has been. He doesn’t have any hobbies that can be done sitting down and he is bored out of his mind. He has never been a reader and I’m trying to find a potential book that could preoccupy his mind.

    A little bit about him:
He is a pheasant hunter and fisherman. Loves gardening and working with his hands fixing things. He likes an action movie from time to time but nothing sci-fi, fantasy, or too deep. The only book I ever really remember reading with him was Hatchet by Gary Paulson.

I flaired this post with mystery/thriller because I thought that had potential but I’m open to anything.

    Any ideas?

Sorry to hear about your dad’s accident. Sending him wishes for a speedy recovery 🙏

Re. book recs… this is a book I own that I haven’t actually read yet but with you saying that your dad likes pheasants it immediately sprung to my mind! 😅 It’s called Bird Brain by Guy Kennaway, it’s a comic sort of mystery/detective novel about a game bird hunter who gets killed in a hunting accident and reincarnated as a pheasant!

Or, alternatively as you said your dad isn’t a big reader, audiobooks might be a good shout for him. My partners mum struggles to concentrate reading a physical book but we introduced her to Audible and she loves it!

    2. Maybe some William Kent Kruger or John Sanford? Both are murder mystery genre but with a lot of outdoor stuff..

    3. I feel like Lee Child books are classic dad material! 🙂 and if he likes them, there are 30 or so, so they’ll keep him occupied for a while!

Maybe a bunch of short stories or anecdotes like

Just Before Dark by Jim Harrison

Sidetracks by Gary Oberg and Trina Holt

Should the Tent be Burning Like That by Bill Heavy
