I’ve been in such a big reading slump lately. I love romance/fantasy books, but I’ve read so many that everything feels repetitive now. It’s always the same formula with just a slight twist — I can literally predict who ends up together and what happens next because I’ve basically read the same story a hundred times 😭

I just want a romance book where I don’t know if they’re endgame or not. Something with tension, unpredictability, and a good slow burn that actually keeps me guessing 😭

It doesn’t have to be fantasy, as long as the romance is slow burn and well-written. Any recs?

I hate romance but I have three favorite. Say Goodbye For Now (interracial set back in the day) I thinks by Catherine Ryan. Jane Eyre, a classic. And Warm Bodies, zombies.

this isn’t fantasy, but “Normal People” by Sally Rooney is a story about a couple in their late teens/early 20s in Ireland that always has you guessing about how it will end up and what the next turn in their relationship will be

If you want “will they/won’t they”, stop looking in genre romance. It won’t be there, by the rules of the genre. And most romantasy seems to follow genre romance rules.

I’d be looking in literary fiction/fiction.

Sorry, I’m not sure if this is what you were looking for, but have you thought about rereading a book that you read during your childhood/young adulthood that you LOVED and haven’t read since, whether fantasy or not? I was in one of the biggest reading slumps of my life earlier this year, went back and reread “The Giver” for the first time since high school. It was an incredibly quick, but wonderful read. Wasn’t too complicated or complex, so it was easier to find down and sink into. Wasn’t too long, so didn’t feel like the commitment was as large.
