When I was younger, ran across what I remember being Krol's Whole Internet User's Guide and Catalog. I'll check it out again, but I'm pretty sure it was an overview about things like ftp, gopher, and so on. Just all those old-school Internet technologies.
I'm wondering what some other good ones are. Less about the state of the Internet, more about the techs of the Internet. I know there's a rewrite of that book done some seven years ago, I'll probably check that out, as well. But whatever else you guys recommend, I'll take a gander at.
