ASDFGH I know people say it’s one of a kind!! BUT, I don’t mean a fantasy epic when I say like the Realm of the Elderlings. I mean like with a lot of themes on loyalty and pride and relationships, since that’s what I loved about the series, and focus on characters and pretty prose. Does that exist at least? ☹️ (also doesn’t have to be sad!! I dont really see that as what I loved about her books, it was more how it was meant to be basically?)

I also really liked characters names, I know some people didn’t but frankly I love it when names actually mean something and actually affect a person in a book the way they do in actuality—idk I don’t like random characters strung together as names it just bugs me.

I’ve heard ASOIAF has some themes like that but frankly I’ve always gotten the impression it’s a bit callous if that makes sense? And I don’t really like callous books so I haven’t started it yet. I have tried Juliet Mariller and have enjoyed her books but I felt like they hit a slightly different vibe from The Realm of the Elderlings too honestly.

    1. Reader alert for those browsing this post: Hobb writes trauma porn, books to make you cry. Some readers find the narrative cathartic, others might find it off-putting. YMMV.

    2. Apprehensive-Act-315 on

Wars of Light and Shadow by Janny Wurts. Lots of pretty prose, internal noodling, relationships, loyalty, and main character is created for suffering.
