I’m looking for any book where the main character is hated or at the very least disliked by ** everyone** in the story. Specifically for the majority if not all of it?
For reference, I recently finished Convenience Store Woman, Earthling, and No Longer Human.
I’m not saying I need another Japanese book though. I just liked how the main character in each of these stories was so obviously an outcast. Society shunned them for being different. People constantly pointed out how weird they were, and bullied them for it.
I’ve never felt more understood. I’d try any book that could give me this feeling again 🙏

Catcher in the Rye
All of the Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever books by Stephen Donaldson.
Not sure if this fits because it has totally different vibes:
A Confederacy of Dunces, by John Kennedy Toole.
It’s a very popular book but personally I didn’t enjoy it. People I respect like it, so there’s something there, but I didn’t see it.
Maybe check out some more Sayaka Murata, being an outcast to society is a pretty common theme in her books. I thought “Vanishing World” was meh but “Life Ceremony” was great (Though “Earthlings” is still my favorite of hers). Aside from her books, this is also a common theme in Katherine Dunn’s books, particularly “Toad” would be a great fit.
