For that class, the professor assigned River Town: Two Years on the Yangtze by Peter Hessler. The book covered Hessler’s two years living in Fuling, Chongqing as a Peace Corps volunteer. After reading that book, I selected Chinese as my foreign language and aspired to go to China. Fast forward a few years, I packed my bags and moved to Chongqing. I ended up staying there for six years. A great adventure.
