I’m on the hunt for fiction books that make me forget the world for a while – stories that pull me in so vividly I can see them unfold like a movie in my mind. I’ve been deep into non-fiction for years and miss that feeling of pure escape. One of the last books that did that for me was Normal People (I devoured it in four days). I also really enjoy short stories.
Lately, I haven’t found many newer books that hit the same way, but I’m open to anything that might rekindle that spark. Thank you in advance 🙂

[**The Golden Compass** by Phillip Pullman](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/119322)
i first read these in my early 30s (don’t let the covers make you think these are for children), and they are the 2 most atmospheric, transported-me-to-another-world, escapist books i have ever and will probably ever read. i cannot recommend them enough.
i’ve lost count of how many times i’ve read both. they’re absolutely incredible and my comfort books when i need to not be in this fucked up timeline.
