Hello, everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster. Depression stole my love of reading for a lot of years, but reading the suggestions here has helped me rediscover one of my favorite hobbies! From this subreddit, I’ve found so many wonderful authors and worlds. I cannot tell you how immensely grateful I am, but I have a bit of a problem:

I read pretty fast, and my job has a fair bit of downtime where any time I can have a phone in my hand, I’m reading.

That has lead me directly to the bottom of my reading list, looking for new suggestions.

Without further ado, here’s the books I’ve loved this year:

    • Convenience Store Woman, Sayaka Murata
    • Earthlings, Sayaka Murata
    • The Library at Mount Char, Scott Hawkins
    • Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil, VE Schwab
    • Kushiel’s Dart, Jacqueline Carey (reading the series slowly)
    • Tilt, Emma Pattee
    • Project Hail Mary, Andy Weir
    • The Egg and Other Stories, Andy Weir
    • The Midnight Library, Matt Haig
    • Tender is the Flesh, Agustina Bazterrica
    • I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Iain Reid
    • Pet Semetary, Stephen King
    • What the River Knows, Isabel Ibañez

Books that I liked, but didn’t love:

    • Bunny, Mona Awad
    • Pines, Blake Crouch
    • The Long Walk, Stephen King
    • The Wasp Factory, Iain Banks

I love speculative fiction, and as you can see – a weird plot is basically a must. I like sci fi, fantasy and mystery. I like a strong (flawed) female MC, but it’s not a requirement.

I’m hoping to get a list of new books to burn through over the next few months – so please recommend away!
