Doesn’t have to be a book- I also enjoy reading journal articles and academic publications. Looking to read something that will help me rationalise my current experience as an “intellectual” (read- someone training in an academic field exploring the theory of theories on everything ever) while also living life as semi-disabled —- autistic, burnt out, physically sick from “stress”, a woman no doctor is willing to try and diagnose.
“The Bell Jar” comes to mind, but I found Plath unrelatable as a neurotypical middle-class person in relatively good social standing with friends and family – I would like to focus on physical disability or neurodivergence in opposition to mental disability/disorders. Ideally autobiography or autofiction, the high-performance/high-stress lifestyle does not have to be related to intellectual pursuits like poetry or academia but would be a bonus (when compared to example, dancing or sport which often result in physical disability).
Hoping something like this even exists. Thank you!
