I’d love to find a book that is a really good, wholesome, friends-to-lovers gay male romance between young adults.
Would be extra pros:
-slow burn/pining
-miscommunication
-some spicy scenes but not too much, primarily romantic
-set in college
-touches on gay issues (ex. one being closeted, past trauma, shame) but without being depressing: the story is about how their love/the events of the book heal that
-both characters are somewhat masculine, maybe one moreso than the other
Thanks!

The Understatement of the Year, by Sarina Bowen
Not sure if you’re interested in sci-fi, but:
Winter’s Orbit – Everina Maxwell. Slow burn/pining, miscommunication, fade-to-black sex scenes iirc, love as healing (from abusive relationship, not homophobia), both characters somewhat masculine. I’d call it wholesome with respect to the relationship, but the book is not what I’d describe as fluffy or feel-good. It’s not super dark, though.
