Hello! I am trying to get into reading after never being into it. I have always loved the IDEA of reading, have an active a imagination for telling stories, and love the idea of learning about different walks of life and just growing my knowledge. I have always struggled with ADHD and minor dyslexia so its not just a recent short-form content issue (although thats a contributor) but just a genuine struggle to really get invested in a story. I find myself using all my brain power to just read the lines, decipher what the author is saying, rather than actually getting invested in a world and having the language create new meanings on its own. I am a huge film person and just recently graduated film school. I direct short films and want to start getting more serious about the length and depth of the stories I tell because I find that my substance is never enough and im just style. It might be a good place to get inspiration for recs based off of my favorite movies. I love Phantom Thread, 12 Angry Men, Apocalypse Now, Interstellar, One Battle After Another, Sinners, The Lighthouse, Coraline, etc. I just honestly am overwhelmed by the amount of genres, writing styles, and eras of writing that I don’t know where to start because books feel like a big investment. Are there classics that are clear answers for me, or some niche picks that fit my movie taste? All is welcome. Thanks!
