I was an English major in the 1990’s and enjoyed books like 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Flaubert’s Parrot by Julian Barnes. I didn’t read much post college. After having a kid I started reading young adult novels with her. Harry Potter, all the Rick Riorden books, rereading Tamara Pierce’s Lioness series, and the Hunger Games.
I’d like to get back into adult books but am really sensitive to things like violent sexual assault and very traumatic events, especially with children involved. For a book club I’ve read “The perfect marriage” and honestly it was terrible. IMO poor writing and character development along with a mediocre story. I’ve read a few Agatha Christie novels that were ok. I just finished “a peculiar combination “ by Ashley weaver and it was ok, not great in any way. Not sure if I’ll continue the series.
I’d love a good series that is well written, does not have to be mystery, low on the triggering topics, and good character development. Can have romantic interest but not the main focus. I honestly loved the young adult series mentioned above, but looking for adult characters if that makes sense. Well written is important.
