I don't like to spoil major plot points or twists when talking about books. I might be a little too cautious about that. The rules of /r/books require that spoilers be tagged. What is the general etiquette on a character being revealed as gay halfway through a book?
In Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, for example, one of the characters comes out halfway through the book, but the it's often categorized among LGBT literature.
Is it fair to talk on /r/books about these books having gay characters and themes, or does that have to be spoiler tagged?

I don’t think it’s a spoiler for that book since it’s what that book is known for.
It is (other than it’s mostly positive reviews) known almost exclusively as being a Y-Gay book.
I would consider that to be a spoiler unless it’s stated in the summary on the book jacket
Yes if you spoil any part of the story for someone.
i would definitely consider something of this nature to be a spoiler.
I think if it’s a known MLM book then it’s not a spoiler. But then again maybe in the story we know hes gay but it’s a secret and then it’s a surprise that he tells people. I think having read the book is the only way to say for sure if it’s a spoiler but I don’t think someone coming out has one single answer to whether it’s a spoiler bc the situations are so different
If it’s only revealed halfway through(and it’s an actual revelation), it’s a spoiler. even if you think people know it, I wouldn’t just shout out stuff from the middle of a book.
