I’ve run into a bit of a (pleasant) problem with my eldest daughter. Her reading ability and appetite has really taken off over the last 3-4 years.
I’m not concerned about censoring the material. She’s demonstrated enough maturity to handle adult topics and from our discussions understands the underlying inferences and symbolism. However, she still lacks life experience which is required to interpret many of the books at the reading level she’s venturing into. So I’m more concerned about ensuring they remain engaging.
Currently she’s reading Kim (Kipling).
Some of her favourites over the last couple of years have been:
Lord of the Flies
Life of Pie
Catcher in the Rye
All of Kipling
Hitch Hikers Guide books
Huckleberry Fin
