First time reading it and I feel like every page is tongue-in-cheek humor. I always assumed it was a somber adventure tale and maybe I is and I’m just reading it through a modern lens but I crack up laughing every other page on his word choice.

It’s very funny. Melville is underrated as a humorist, but his heirs like Pynchon and Gaddis understood how funny he was.
Ah interesting I wouldn’t have thought it’d be funny either, I’ll take a look. I like unexpected humour in strange places!
Im only 40 pages in and I find it hilarious. What a nice surprise!
