I realized some time ago the last time I read something from my own country was when I was in 5th grade, it was Ion Luca Caragiale. Lately I've started reading Russian literature and Japanese though. So, I've been wondering, for those of you that do have experience with your own countries authors and books, what are some of your favourites?

I don’t have one favourite – we have quite a few very good authors here in Australia – but I read a debut novel by a writer named “Pirooz Jafari” a couple of months ago, and it was fantastic. *Forty Nights* is the name of the book.

USA has a lot too but cormac McCarthy is solid (the road, blood meridian), Thomas Harris (red dragon, silence of the lambs).
