Hello! I am currently writing a thesis that explores crime, poverty, and injustice in Chicago in the twentieth and twenty-first century. I was wondering if anyone could suggest some insightful books or other sources! I have several great books, but I’m open to more!

Read Gangleader For a Day by Sudhir Vankatesh. It focuses on the Robert Taylor homes pre demolition in the 90’s and the gangs that ran it. Crime, poverty and injustice are major themes. Great read.
I don’t know if The Jungle by Upton Sinclair would work for what you need since it’s fiction (although well researched fiction), but maybe there’s a non-fiction book out there that was written as a reaction to or in support of The Jungle.
Also, given that The Jungle was published in 1906, anything connected to The Jungle would only cover about a decade of the 20th century, so it might not work for what you need. 🤷🏼♀️
