      Besides *It*? I think of that as the OG for monster horror. King also wrote *The Mist,* which is monster horror, along with *Doctor Sleep* (one of the most frightening books I’ve read and with atypical monsters). I’d argue most King novels have an element of the monster there, especially if you count vampires and malevolent ghosts as monsters.

      Pretty much any zombie novel, and a large percentage of Dean Koontz. Nick Cutter, too.

      None of these books have a comedy element to them. I guess that kind exists, but I don’t know how to make comedy and horror go together if the monster is believable–except for some zombie novels. Zombie novels can insert a comedic element successfully. I think movies do that one better.

      Yeah honestly it’s better to have a comedy element in movies rather than books otherwise it’s just cringe, thanks for the suggestions on Dean and Nick. 🙂
