I'm trying to find a book for my book club. We try to do something seasonal every December but rarely enjoy whatever we come up with.
Do you have any Christmas themed books that aren't too "Hallmark" style? We like romance but not the "small town, christmas tree farm, I'm dating Santa's son" sort of thing 🤪
Last year we read The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey which isn't so much centered around Christmas, but fit in enough and everyone enjoyed it.

Eileen by Otessa Moshfegh takes place around Christmas
It is Hallmark Mystery-ish, but you could also look at The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year.
Hogfather by Terry Pratchett. It’s funny and profound. There’s also a very good TV movie starring a pre-Downton Abbey Michelle Dockery.
Three fantasy ideas:
The Dark Is Rising by Susan Cooper. Fantasy. It takes place around Christmas and uses Christmas symbols and celebrations, but it is more about ancient forces of good vs ancient forces of evil than straightforward Christmas.
Letters from Father Christmas by JRR Tolkien. Letters that Tolkien wrote and illustrated for his kids as Santa Clause. Charming with hints of what he’d eventually write in Lord of the Ring.
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novak is wintry but not Christmas.
