I finally got back into reading last autumn after being in a slump for years and since then I've found a niche that seems to affect me the most deeply is fiction centering around women with true historical and societal context serving as the background. I'm open to different eras but I've especially been gravitating towards fiction set in the second half of the 20th century. The main character being a woman is very important but what sort of relationships it focuses on is less so, I am open to different things but I would like the focus to be more on relationships between women. Mother-daughter, friendships, queer romantic relationships, anything goes. I'm open to fiction set in any region/country of the world and centering around any group. An ambitious goal is to eventually read something from every country and I like using fiction to learn more about the different people and our world. It would be best if the author was from the country the book is set in.

A few books I loved that fit this niche well: A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, Soviet Milk by Nora Ikstena, My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante.

I am looking for more books like this to add to my reading list! Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
