I'm going on an 8 hour drive with my 83 year old mother so I'm looking for a few books to listen to while I drive.
Mom loves Nora Roberts, Mary Higgins Clark, and Danielle Steel.
She likes murder mysteries where in her words "they focus on finding the killer but not on giving you a detailed autopsy report".
I prefer not to listen to audiobooks with a detailed sex scene with my mother also listening.

Your mom is describing a cozy mystery, one of my favorite genres! I would start with The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman. The fifth book in the series just came out!
How to Solve Your Own Murder
The Cinderella Murder, by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke
Louise Penny’s mysteries with Chief Inspector Armande Gamache could work. They’re cozy but not *too* cozy. If that makes sense?
murder mysteries…. well i’m suggesting a different enthralling type of audiobook. Daughter of a Daughter of a Queen. Is such a cool book about a freed slave woman after the Civil war. There are a couple sex scenes but nothing graphic. I also really enjoyed Coyote Blue by christopher Moore. my son and i listened to that on an 8 hr car trip. There’s always Ladies Detective Agency series set in Botswana which are fun and light mysteries- not murder but more human. and that writer in Canada who spends alot of time describing what ppl eat between the ghastly murder stuff…. louise penny. Not sure how good they are as audiobooks.
another mystery i really liked was Lady in the Lake by Laura Lipman. Since ur mom is 83 she’d probably enjoy the decade the novel is set in 1960s. She really captures that time well. The twist is such a twist.
Remarkably Bright Creatures
I bet she’d enjoy Killers of A Certain Age! The audiobook is well-narrated. The first all-female special ops team is retiring and celebrating with a cruise – until they discover a hit has been put on them.
The cozy series “Domestic Diva” is a funny one with interesting characters in a small town.
Finley Donovan series is also quite entertaining.
Jana DeLeon Miss Fortune series
My 92 year old mom recently really loved “The Secret Keeper” by Kate Morton so much that she keeps ordering more of her books.
The Longmire series has the world’s best narrator. I’d listen to him read the phone book. He absolutely makes the books! The writing is also fun. I would never have thought in a million years that I’d enjoy the books, but I love them!
Try Diana Xarissa cozy mysteries.
Vera Wong’s Unsolicited Advice for Murderers
Killers of a Certain Age
Louise Penny’s novels
A Murder is Announced, one of my favorite Miss Marple mysteries.
Murder by Cheesecake — the first Golden Girls mystery!
