It's 3am and a wikipedia rabbit hole led me to the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.

And I realized how many interesting books are out there. Then I remembered the vastly larger amount of disappointing, commercial, or even horrifyingly problematic books also out there (thinking about you, old espionnage book where the bad guys were three afro-american gay polyamory communists who practice nudism)

I'm not sure what I am looking for. Maybe something that has truth in it, that helps me understand someone's experience. Or something about the human experience as a whole, without becoming pretentious.

Maybe something about the mundane. Someone elses mundane preferably.

It does not have to be fiction. It does not need a plot.

I just want something to read, to feel, and maybe that makes me a slightly better person, somehow.

Or maybe just something spooky and sad but also uplifting.

Some other keywords to maybe help narrow down your suggestions (it does not have to include any of them) :
Melancholia, tales, forests, folk, ghosts, the devil, lost in the woods, historically accurate, community, minority, queer, design (why), origin, source, objectivity, subjectivity, urban planning, maps, cartography, water, floods, benevolent, reason, logic, …
