I’ve realized that my thread title may sound confusing as all-get-out, so I should probably clarify.

Basically I’m working on some fiction about teenage boys who wind up being hospitalized for mental health issues (one suffers from Anorexia and recently attempted suicide, the other has Schizoaffective Disorder), and I was hoping someone could point me towards some nonfiction or memoirs about what it’s like to work in these places.

I am definitely open to ones that talk about diagnoses and treatments (what kind of medication is given, how is therapy conducted), but I would also appreciate the nuts and bolts aspects of how many patients are usually on the ward, how does the daily schedule go, why would a patient wind up at this ward and not that one, and how are disciplinary problems addressed.

    1. If you are writing from the perspective of the boys who are hospitalized and/or centering their experiences, I would encourage you to look for memoirs from _patients_ that spent time in psych wards.
