(Not literally illustrated)
Hi! I am looking for books or stories where any character really got under your skin. The types that make you angry for the main character or maybe even remind you of someone who f*cked you over in your own life.
Fiction, memoir, true crime, creative nonfiction, whatever genre works. I'm just interested in thoughtful illustrations of people doing shitty things, conniving, manipulating. Especially interested in anything more covert, slow-burn, and subtle. Also specifically interested in psychological fiction and memoir but not excusively by any means.
Thanks, and please no spoilers of any kind!!!

The Bestseller by Olivia Goldsmith. It has multiple POV characters, many of whom are unreliable narrators, and a couple of whom are the antagonists. All the characters are well-illustrated. Even when you despise them, you completely understand their motivations. And there’s a surprise POV from an antagonist that pops up halfway through, just as she starts to unravel.
