Basically my stepdad is one of those typical boomer white men who since retiring has spent 50% of his free time on Facebook or Instagram slowly getting brainwashed by conservative, radical garbage. I know him to be a very compassionate person but he needs to be consuming more positive, accepting and progressive media.

He loves the Mitch Albom books, generally he’ll only read shorter non-fiction/ self help or spirituality type stuff. I feel like anything that comes across as just an inspiring story with good messaging vs a more aggressive “this book is progressive” title would be more well received…thank you!!

    1. Sarah Wynn Williams book “careless people” on face book might be worth a read/listen. If anything it just made me lower my fb use and maybe think a bit more critically of what I’m seeing

Is he a Star Wars fan? A Star is Bored by Byron Lane is about someone who is an assistant to a mega star actress of sci fi movies. Byron Lane was Carrie Fischer’s assistant before becoming an author, so I have to assume it’s not totally fiction.

Either way, it’s a good entry point, and the main character is gay and has a strained relationship with his dad because of his conservative rhetoric, but that’s not the main plot of it. I think the Star Wars hook is a good way in for people who might not otherwise pick it up.

      There’s some cursing FWIW
