Just finished it and really enjoyed it. I’m after more books with a similar vibe, something that deals with zoonotic jumps. Don’t mind if it involves zombies or anything like that, but I’d prefer it to have a technical sci-fi feel, especially around how the transmission from animals to humans actually happens.
Would rather avoid loads of head-hopping if possible. First person and present tense would be ideal, I like that sense of being right there as it all unfolds.
Any recommendations would be massively appreciated.

If you liked The Wanderers, you might really enjoy The Last Switch by Khalid Muhammed. It has that same grounded sci-fi vibe — it starts with a mysterious energy experiment that spirals into something way bigger and darker about human evolution and the limits of empathy.
What I loved most is that it feels real — the science isn’t just background noise; it’s tied to how people break, adapt, and question what being human even means. It’s written in a cinematic, present-tense style that really puts you inside the story as things start to unravel.
Definitely worth checking out if you want something that blends psychological realism with a scientific mystery.
