I'm looking for fiction book suggestions that deal with heavy themes, potentially revolving around existential philosophy, mental health, violence, suicide, and family trauma. I absolutely love Dostoyevsy, Kafka, Camus, and the like. I just finished The Trial by Kafka, and though good, I found it rather dull and dry. Therefore, I'm looking for something more modern and enjoyable to read, that is still written with eloquence and intent, having the marks of a potential classic. I like quotable novels that contain philosophical quips, and authors with a deep understanding of the human condition and its dark sides. I hate modern detective novels, but revel in violence, especially when portrayed in a way that invokes sympathy for the purpotrators. More important than violence is the psychological narrative. I'm also open to other classics that are similar to the abovementioned authors. Basically, I want a deep-dive into the complexities of human life in its more extreme, dark forms. Does anyone know of anything like this? Thanks.
