I'm looking to broaden the scope of my reading. With the romance genre making up such a huge part of the market, I'm sure it has its merits. That being said I've been unable to get through a romance novel.
I primarily read scifi/fantasy and of course many have a B plot that is a romance, but I'm looking for something that would be marketed as a romance.
My recent reads include Mistborn (the romance was the most boring part to me), Red Rising, and the Name of The Wind. My favorite series is the Ender's Shadow series. I really enjoy smart characters engaging in political intrigue/battle of wits.

Are there any particular romance novels you’ve tried and bounced off?
I’d probably recommend one of T.Kingfisher’s Paladin fantasy romance novels. I have male friends who didn’t typically read romance who’ve really enjoyed them.
Try Pride and Prejudice it’s basically social chess with flirting as strategy. I’m not big on romance either, but that one won me over.
