hi. I've been looking for what is essentially a romance novel with good writing similar to literary fiction. A lot of romance novels now can be very formulaic and use a lot of the same language. And I kind of just want better quality of writing.
Something like Normal People by Sally Rooney but not that ending (idk how to phrase that without spoiling the book lol)
I also liked the writing in Seven Days in June by Tia Williams and in The Things We Leave Unfinished by Rebecca Yarros. Side note: A lot of Rebecca Yarros' contemporary romance books are really good.
Also The Time Traveller's Wife, though I only got to 60 percent of the book because I quit. It got really slow and the back and forth was tedious. It was still nice. (edited)
but yeah, basically, I want it to be about a romantic relationship. A preference for strangers to lovers, but not a requirement as I also don't want it to be trope-y. Sex Scenes are okay, as long as they're not erotica or like when the sex doesn't contribute to the story anymore and is just pure indulgence on the part of the author.
they also don't have to end up together in the end, but I would like an optimistic ending. There is enough sadness and heartbreak in the world right now lol
hopefully there is an audiobook because I am blind. TIA
edit: no Nicholas Sparks, please

Sunburn by Chloe Michelle Howarth was amazing! Gave me normal people vibes. I also enjoyed Alone With You in the Ether by Olivie Blake
