    1. VillainChinchillin on

Homer Price by Robert McCloskey has similar energy to Beverly Cleary’s Otis Spofford, a young boy getting caught up in shenanigans. My 5yo son is currently rotating through listening to Ramona, Henry Huggins, Ralph S. Mouse and Otis Spofford.

    2. I loved the *Betsy-Tacy* books at her age. Maybe try the first few of those? (The last six or so are for an older audience, but there are a good few perfect for a 5-year-old.)

*Charlotte’s Web*, too, and *Stuart Little*. Maybe *Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle* or *Pippi Longstocking*. *All-of-a-Kind Family.* There are so many! I’m excited for her!

    3. Ooh! I’m a children’s librarian who LOVES finding readalouds for families! Here are some great ones if she likes Matilda, Ramona, and other books with quirky kids as the main characters:

The Melendy Quartet, starting with The Saturdays, by Elizabeth Enright

The Dragon of Lonely Island by Rebecca Rupp

Gone Away Lake and its sequel by Elizabeth Enright (really anything Elizabeth Enright wrote, to be honest)

Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh

From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E.L. Konigsburg

All of E.B. White’s children’s books: Trumpet of the Swan, Charlotte’s Webb, Stuart Little

I can give you more suggestions if needed, but I think any of these would be adored by you and your daughter!
