So, I need to branch out. I've been looking over my book analytics for the last two years and I've read maybe three or four books that aren't sci-fi or fantasy. The most notable non-fantasy ones are The God of the Woods and Notes on an Execution, both of which I loved and rated 5 stars.
I'll take anything at this book, but I would prefer fiction. Historical, memoirs, science, history, crime/thrillers. I tend to stay away from contemporary romance as a rule but if it's background or not overt I wouldn't mind it.
And as a bonus, don't say East of Eden because I have it already and it's on my list. Thanks in advance.

Try Andrew Miller for historical fiction. I particularly love Ingenious Pain and Pure. Or. JL Carr A Month in the Country.
Aubrey/Maturin series by Patrick OBrian. Wooden Ships. Iron Men. Napoleonic Wars.
The Last Aloha by Gaellen Quinn.
Hula by Jasmin Iolani Hakes.
Two well-written thrillers with great characters:
Small Game, by Blair Braverman: Fiction, survivalist reality show gone terribly wrong
Into Thin Air, by Jon Krakauer: Nonfiction account of a disastrous Everest climb
