With real stakes and drama/obstacles for the characters, but where the overall aftertaste is… hopeful. Tension's great, it doesn't have to be all flowers and unicorns, but I really don’t want anything grimdark, post-apocalyptical, ''humanity is trash,'' or full of icky cynical despair.
Ideally, it’s a story that points toward a better future for humanity and the planet. Like, if I were to ask you, “Show me a piece of text that would help me envision a better future for Earth,” you could literally open this book, point to a paeagraph, and say, “Here, this.”
Adjacent fictional recommendations are very welcome, as long as they’re engaging and intellectually stimulating (I don’t want a dry manifesto), but ultimately hopeful rather than soul-crushing.
