When I first started reading heavily, I was always told the best first sentence of a book for Tolstoy's 'Anna Karenina.' I don't known if I agree, but I don't have another alternative. To date though, the best first chapter of a book I've ever read was from 'Ministry of the Future' by Kim Stanley Robinson. I've read the book once. I've read the first chapter about 7-8 times. What's your best first chapter of all time?
