My girlfriend and I like to have friendly competitions with each other and since we both love reading we decided to do a reading competition for 2026. Only catch is not just any book counts – only the books we end up really loving (this is so we aren’t tempted to zoom through as many short/easy books as possible).
I like horror, fantasy, faeries, female serial killers, gothic literature, themes of isolation, and anything that makes me think deep thoughts. I’m not typically much of a romance reader but I’m a lesbian and appreciate a good lesbian love story especially if it’s kind of dark/toxic. I like pretty, flowery writing (as long as it’s not overdone) and interesting twists on or departures from typical tropes and plot structures.
Some of my favorite books are: The Last Tale of the Flower Bride by Roshani Chokshi, Kushiel’s Legacy by Jacqueline Carey, Piranesi by Susanna Clarke, We Have Always Lived In The Castle by Shirley Jackson, the Neapolitan Novels by Elena Ferrante, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, Maeve Fly by CJ Leede, Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, The Starving Saints by Caitlin Starling, the Cormoran Strike series by Robert Galbraith, the Modern Faerie Tales by Holly Black, A Certain Hunger by Chelsea G Summers, Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, and The Last Unicorn by Peter S Beagle.
I also like nature and hiking and dancing ballet. I’m into spirituality and yoga and occasionally practice witchcraft. I enjoy kink and listen to darkwave/goth music, and I studied psychology in college and find it fascinating.
Thank you!!!
