When I was a Freshman in college, my English professor gave us a Freewrite assignment as a final project for the quarter. She dedicated a whole lecture specifically on how to write a perfect opening line for the paper.
One of the sources she gave us was a list of "15 of the Best First Lines in Fiction". It showed me how first lines are a distinctly beautiful part of a story and are sometimes the most artistic part of a story; I developed a fascination with them after. Currently, I'm still trying to read all the stories that were on that list.
I'm certain this has been asked before, but I'm curious: what's your favorite opening line of a story?
