I have a made-up genre that is one of my new guilty pleasures. I call it "Suspense for Stupid People." I especially like to find books in this category with good audio versions, preferably with ensemble casts. These are books that are entertaining but that don't require much thinking. Something to read or listen to right before bed. Fluff. These books induce eye rolls from time to time, but they're not so bad that they make you angry at the author.

An example of a book I put into this category is The Overnight Guest by Heather Gudenkauf, although I nearly DNF'd that one and did get a bit frustrated at how much the author felt the need to s-p-e-l-l- things out for the reader. I use this example because it is the book that prompted me to create the Suspense for Stupid People genre.

I also have another made-up genre I call "Books for People Who Peaked in High School." I'm listening to one now, One of Us is Dead by Jeneva Rose, and it's not even good enough to go in my Suspense for Stupid People category. I'm probably about to DNF that one. Just an example of something that's too awful to even grace my Suspense for Stupid People list.

Any recs to add to my Suspense for Stupid People TBR list? I'm also happy to start a new type of "___ for Stupid People" genre. Doesn't have to be suspense. Got a lot of great recs when I posted about my aversion to Glennon Doyle, so I'm hoping this will lead to more of that type of camaraderie 🙂
