I have seen a few posts by people embarking on the Read Around the World challenge. Last night, I had a hankering to read Dostoevsky, and decided I might as well join them! I am going to break it up by continents to set little “mini goals”! Since I started with Russia, I’m just going to do all of Europe before moving on to another region.
So, can you suggest some books for me to Read Around Europe?
Thanks a bunch!

An author who was very influenced by Dostoevsky who might make a good follow up is **Hunger by Knut Hamsun** (Norway).
For Sweden and Iceland there’d be tons of detective noir/mysteries to choose from!
Germany: All Quiet On the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque if you’ve never read it
Are you looking for books set in each country, authors from each country, or both?
Bosnia and Herzegovina: The Swallows of Mostar by Neira Fazlovic, contemporary romance, FF
Denmark (well, territory of): Last Night in Nuuk by Niviaq Korneliussen is queer litfic by a Greenlandic author.
France: The Arsène Lupin mysteries are fun, they’re like if Sherlock Holmes was a thief. He actually appears in some of them, but the name had to be changed (to Herlock Sholmès) for copyright reasons. The Godmother by Hannelore Cayre is a crime novel. A Winter’s Promise by Christelle Dabos is an enjoyable fantasy read, but set in a secondary world.
UK: Happiness by Aminatta Forna, litfic.
