My mother (49 years old) has probably never read a book before, but I suggested she get into reading. She really liked the idea, and I’m thinking of surprising her with a book, but I’m not sure what she would like. Generally, she loves watching true crime, her favourite TV show is Breaking Bad and her favourite movies are Gone Girl and Big Momma’s House. She also hates anything with a confusing plot. What book should I get for her?

If she likes gone girl then get her the other Gillian Flynn books. She may also like Karin slaughter.
If she likes true crime, you could try some true crime non fiction. Libraries are great because she can try them for free
