Torn between lord of the rings and a song of ice and fire

I decided to buy a new fantasy series but I'm absolutely torn between lord of the rings and game of thrones. They're both popular and from what I know it looks like I'll enjoy both.
I've enjoyed middle grade fantasy series (harry potter, Percy Jackson and a few keeper of the lost cities books) but don't really have much difficulty understanding adult books
