I'm beginning to think I dreamed this book up. Can anyone help me remember the author and title?
The book begins with two epidemiologists who are summoned to (Africa?) the scene of a disease outbreak that is decimating a small mining camp. The disease causes bizarre mutations in plants and is almost 100% fatal to people. The doctors battle the disease but it cannot be controlled and the camp is bombed to prevent the disease from breaking out, but not before one woman leaves the camp and manages to infect an ornithologist who becomes Patient Zero when he brings the virus to the US. The story follows the now demented patient as he causes outbreaks of the virus and then disappears. The two doctors and one survivor follow Zero and try to stop him from letting the disease get out of control.
I thought the book was called "The Blood Artists" by Chuck Hogan, but I can't find a trace of it on Amazon or anywhere. Did I forget the title and author? Did I dream the whole thing up? Any input appreciated!
