A vampire or werewolf book that ISN’T “steamy” romance/smut-y, or horror?

Title is pretty much self explanatory! I've been thinking about the science/biology behind realistic vampirism/werewolfism, and would love to find some books that portray them as people, rather than straight up horrific monsters with no humanity, or as objects of desire if you catch my drift. Romance could still be part of the storyline of course, but I'm just not really interested in anything that places emphasis on them being sexy. I watched Interview With A Vampire a bit ago, and really liked it, and am planning to read it now that most of the details from the movie have faded from memory (so I'm not comparing them too closely to each other, since there's bound to be differences).
