I want to know everyones favorite books and why. I need more stuff to read. I'm trying to branch out of what I'm used to. Please help. I like dark romance, fantasy, some sports romance, a little YA.
Right now I love a book called Homestead by Melinda Moustakis. I think the writing is very poetic. The story is captivating in a daydream sort of way that makes my heart swell, even as the characters make decisions that I hate. It’s a love story of sorts. More of a marriage story.
But my usual answer is The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell. Scifi but deals with themes of religion, science, colonialism, racism (species..ism?)

I love a lot of favorite books, but the one that holds the most special place in my heart is Bastard Out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison. It’s semi-autobiographical, and I find Dorothy Allison to be a very impactful, honest, and raw storyteller. I first read it as a teenager, and it is the first and only book to make me cry. It’s the first book to make me squirm in my chair. It’s also the first book out of elementary school that I read twice.
I don’t do content warnings because we all have different levels of ability to read certain subjects, but if you have any sensitive areas I’d check with the trigger warnings first.
