Hey y’all, I’m new here and im trying to follow the rules but hopefully im doing it right. So I have mainly read history books since I was a little kid, but with me now entering college I’ve been bored with (relatively) dry history books accounting events and numbers and stuff. Some books that have had a real impact on me were “To Kill A Mocking Bird” (this one made me consider law school), “Confederates in the Attic” (sounds weird but it’s just a guy going across the south talking to people about what they think of there history) and the first Horatio Hornblower book “Beat to Quarters”. Yes I know a weird spread, but I hope that’s somewhat helpful. I love history or anything based in a real time or place, but I also have enjoyed things like fantasy with not too much magic like Lord of the Rings. Since this is supposed to help me destress from school I don’t really wanna read anything mega dense lol, but like a small self contained story like “To Kill a Mocking Bird” was awesome. I will also say I like the western genre but idk it there are any modern takes on the genre in book form (I’ve seen a lot of western movies, old and new). When I look for modern adventure books I just find a lot of survival wilderness type stuff, which is cool but idk I guess like the older type of adventure is really what I’m talking about. Anything about the south gets a plus, good and bad. I grew up here and our history is really sad but strangely fascinating. Hopefully this is somewhat coherent, I know the perfect book doesn’t exist but yeah. I appreciate any recommendations, y’all are awesome!
