About 20 years ago I watched Stargate SG-1 for the first time, and I was completely captivated especially by the entire Replicator storyline. Years later I rewatched those episodes specifically for that arc, and they still blow me away. I’ve always loved the concept of self-replicating machines that start as a simple threat, evolve far beyond their original design, and become a relentless and existential force. The mix of sci-fi horror, sci-fi philosophy, and the idea that they learn and adapt faster than you can fight them just hits all the right buttons for me. I also loved the Asgard, a highly developed species that were fighting the Replicators.
Here is my question: Can anyone recommend books that capture a similar vibe? Self-replicating machines or that same blend of awe and dread the Replicators brought to Stargate?
Would love to read something that gives me similar feelings!
