I've been enjoying classic adventure stories, recently read the count of monte cristo, don quixote, treasure island, tales from the thousand and one nights. I started realizing that all of the main characters are men, and if there are women in these books, they're all just romantic interests or temptresses (pretty one dimensional). I do really like this style of classic adventure book, but I'm wondering if anyone can recommend stories like these that include or center women and their perspectives/experiences? I thought maybe since women authors historically haven't been as published, maybe there aren't as many stories like this, but I don't want to believe that!! Thank you in advance for any recs 🙂

This may be stretching the definition of “adventure story” a little bit, but have you read Tess of the D’Urbervilles, or Forever Amber? Both of these heroines have a lot of ups and downs and find themselves in a lot of situations.

    2. Tress of the Emerald Seas by Brandon Sanderson was a good adventure book!

It does have a love interest but I found it to be a secondary plot line despite the whole reason for Tress to go on her adventure was to save the one she loved.
