I’ve always wanted to pick up a book but finding where to start seems overwhelming for me. Recently deleted most social media so now I can focus on reading.
Book recommendations great appreciated!
My interests ; history – African American history , African history , war history etc. I’d also like to read some self help books but not gimmicky. Looking for books that can help me build discipline , self confidence and help my mental health.
I don’t like Romance books I’ve tried I prefer to learn something than read fiction personally. However, I won’t mind any good fiction recommendations to break it apart.
TIA

Stamped From the Beginning by Ibram X. Kendi and The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson are history books written for non-expert audiences. The Souls of Black Folk is a classic for a reason, ditto for anything by Baldwin. For fiction, Morrison’s Beloved is a must-read, of course; but I will also always recommend Nella Larsen’s Passing.
My favorite “self help” book is Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman.
