I am looking for a book that will deepen my understanding of racism in America. I’d like to share it with someone in my life who does not think that racism impacts poc in america today because of equal legal rights
Not In My Neighborhood by Antero Pietila is about redlining in Baltimore.

What is their reading level / commitment to reading a book?
The first recommendation that comes to mind is Caste by Isabel Wilkerson, but if a person has made it to 2025 without realizing that race impacts the world, picking up a book is a big 0-60.
I’m wondering about instead starting with Chimamanda Ngoni Adichie’s A Single Story Ted Talk and then discussing it with them?
Or starting with a novel if they’re a reader and having a book club about it? People are often more open to stories and might be able to connect to bigger ideas through a character.
