Hi! I have a goal to read one book from every country in the world. Ideally I'd like it to be a book that a lot of people in that country would have read, either a classic or something commonly assigned in literature classes.
I find there's something often telling about reading a book that is assigned curriculum as it says something about what the country values or tries to instil in people as part of nation-building.
For example, American students often read to kill a mockingbird, British students often read pride and prejudice, Nigerian students often read Things Fall Apart etc etc
I was hoping that this community could help me by sharing what book that people in your country would have read in school? It also doesn't have to be official curriculum, just something that stands out as 'iconic' that people would remember reading. Can also be contemporary if there wasn't a particular classic.
Thanks!
