I'm trying to make my New Year's resolution to read more. Right now, I only read about 0-1 book a year. The only book that completely pulled me in was November 9 by Colleen Hoover; I just couldn't stop thinking about it. I tried Confess, but it didn't hit the same.
I watch Megan & Ciera and Brooklyn & Bailey talk about books because they get me motivated, but I want that motivation to last. Usually, I read books on my phone or listen to them on YouTube; a lot of narrators are really monotone, which makes it hard to stay interested.
I'm open to anything, whether it be romance, mystery, thriller, or fantasy; just literally anything, as long as it keeps me hooked and makes me excited to get home from work or school just so that I can continue reading.
How do people read so many books a year? How do you keep yourself motivated, making reading one of your habits?
Any book recommendations or reading tips would be a big help!

I keep motivated simply because I want to be a person who reads. I don’t count books so I don’t know how many I read in a year – the number is meaningless to me.
I created a bed time routine. I go to my room , put my phone down and read on my kindle until I fall asleep. If not it will be 3 am and I am scrolling through cat videos. It has helped me turn off , sleep, cured my insomnia and I have read 42 books this year. Some nights I read one page and I am out , other nights I will read 20% of a book, but I do it every night.
Try “Listen for the Lie” by Amy tintera. Super engaging book. I couldnt put it down.
Stay motivated by knowing yourself as a reader and what is conducive to your reading, is it the environment, the time of the day, the snack that goes with it; is it huge hardcover that’s comfortable for you or perhaps ebooks that match your lifestyle etc etc
But the biggest factor is definitely the book itself. You need to venture out and test more water. Idk if GR is still good for it but back in the day, I click on the book I like and there would be a row of suggestions of books that are supposed to be similar. Should be a good start I think.
I can’t suggest a book like Nov. 9 as I’ve not read it or any by that author. But as for motivation: I’ve always read; it’s probably pretty rare that a day goes by that I don’t read or listen to a book, even if it’s just a short while. I love to read; I love experiencing other lives, places, and times by engaging with stories.
I’d suggest starting by setting aside 30 minutes a day to read. Figure out a consistent time (like bedtime, or maybe while you are eating breakfast, or whatever works for you) and just read.
To find books, you can check out Goodreads – look up November 9, and see the suggestions for similar books. Better yet, if you have access to a library, the friendly librarian can help you find a book similar to it. Or just browse the shelves, and/or download the Libby app for e- and audiobooks (library card with a participating library required).
Some books I found very engaging were the Dublin Murder Squad books by Tana French. The first one is In the Woods. My favorite is either The Trespasser or The Likeness.
Edit: clarity!
